ERGAF-AFRICA Hosts “Project Hope Alive” – Day of the African Child 2025

Abuja, Nigeria – ERGAF-AFRICA is proud to announce the 2025 edition of Project Hope Alive in commemoration of the Day of the African Child (DAC).

Theme: “Child Rights-Based Budgeting in Nigeria: The Role of Policymakers.”

The event will take place on:
Date: Monday, 16th June 2025
Time: 9:00 AM
Venue: Tudun Wada Secondary School, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja.

The Day of the African Child is a continental commemoration established to honor the memory of the children of Soweto, South Africa, who protested against apartheid-era education injustice in 1976. This year’s program, spearheaded by ERGAF-AFRICA under its flagship Project Hope Alive initiative, aims to bring together policymakers, educators, child rights advocates, and students to spotlight the urgent need for child rights-based budgeting in Nigeria.

Why This Matters

Despite significant progress in child protection and education, many Nigerian children still face systemic barriers that limit access to quality education, healthcare, and a safe environment. Child rights-based budgeting is a strategic approach to ensure that public funds are allocated in ways that protect and promote the rights of every child, particularly the most vulnerable.

Speaking ahead of the event, Dr. Chibuzo Okereke, Global President of ERGAF-AFRICA, emphasized:

“Investing in children is investing in the future. Policymakers must embed child rights in the very structure of national and state budgets, ensuring that resources are targeted at improving the well-being, education, and protection of every Nigerian child.”

What to Expect

The program will feature:

  • Keynote addresses from policymakers and development partners on integrating child rights into fiscal planning.

  • Panel discussions with child advocates, educators, and youth leaders on sustainable child-focused policy frameworks.

  • Interactive sessions with students to hear directly from the voices of young people.

  • Cultural presentations celebrating African heritage and the resilience of its children.

  • The launch of a Child Rights Budget Advocacy Toolkit for schools and communities.

ERGAF-AFRICA invites government agencies, lawmakers, civil society organizations, the media, parents, and all stakeholders to join hands in amplifying the voices of children and pushing for policies that prioritize their rights, futures, and well-being.
